Nunavik Interest Towards Clean Energy Transition Take the survey now!
Kangiqsujuaq is on the southeastern shore of Wakeham Bay near the Hudson Strait located at 2,100 kilometer north of Montreal. Meaning “the large bay” in Inuktitut, Kangiqsujuaq is a community of 565 people and is known for its beautiful landscape with soil rich in minerals. The area has been mined sporadically since the 1950s.
Thanks to its wind measurement tower installed in 2021 by Tarquti’s team, the community of Kangiqsujuaq has successfully collected 100% of data about wind speed and direction as well as sun radiation, temperature, and others. This year, the community will intensify its action and plan feasibility studies for solar and wind energy projects. Tarquti also hopes to help Kangiqsujuaq’s local entities create a Community Energy Plan and an Energy Team, which would include a Community Energy Champion.
