Kangiqsualujjuaq

Kangiqsualujjuaq is at the mouth of the renowned George River and is known for being the northernmost community with a forest environment.

This year, the community of Kangiqsuallujjuaq, with Tarquti’s support, will accelerate its efforts to create community-led renewable energy projects with a focus on solar energy and eventually, wind. In the Spring 2024, Tarquti will  install a wind measurement tower – a temporary 60-meter-high structure held in place by steel cables anchored to the ground. This instrument will help the community collect data on wind speed and direction as well as sun radiation, temperature, and others. Tarquti in partnership with the local Co-op and the Landholding will engage with local entities to create a Community Energy Plan and build an Energy Team to develop renewable energy projects.
