Nunavik Interest Towards Clean Energy Transition Take the survey now!

Salluit

Formerly known as Sugluk, the community of Salluit is located at the far end of the narrow Sugluk Inlet, exactly 1860 km north of Montreal, and is composed of nearly 1,500 Sallumiut. Meaning ‘the thin ones’ in the Inuktitut language, Salluit is part of Hudson Strait communities.

In the summer of 2021, Tarquti, in collaboration with Taqralik Landholding Corporation, installed a wind measurement tower to collect data on wind speed and direction, sun radiation, temperature, and others. After 18 months, Tarquti, thanks to the hard work of its Local Agent, has successfully collected 100% of the necessary data to realize a renewable energy project in Salluit. In the coming months, Tarquti in partnership with the local Co-op and Taqralik will engage with local entities to create a Community Energy Plan and build an Energy Team.
