Kangiqsujuaq

Kangiqsujuaq, “The Large Bay” in Inuktitut, is on the southeastern shore of Wakeham Bay near the Hudson Strait, 2,100 kilometres north of Montreal. Kangiqsujuaq is a community of 565 people known for its beautiful landscape and its soil rich in minerals. The area has been mined sporadically since the 1950s.

Thanks to its wind measurement tower installed in 2021 by Tarquti’s team, the community of Kangiqsujuaq has successfully collected 100% of data necessary on wind speed and direction as well as sun radiation, temperature, and others. This year, the community will build on that work and plan feasibility studies for solar and wind energy projects. Tarquti in partnership with the local entities will engage local entities to create a Community Energy Plan and an Energy Team to develop renewable energy projects.
